★ Why buy them together
Two of these courses train your hands. The third explains what your hands are making.
★ The Fundamentals of Beauty
Skin prep, base, eye shaping and blending, carried through to finished classic looks.
★ The Fundamentals of Special Effects
Bruises, scars, bald caps, gels and prosthetics, built up layer by layer, then removed properly at the end.
★ The Fundamentals of Makeup Knowledge
Four thousand years of history, culture and society, and the reasons each look came to exist.
Each course works on its own, but I planned them as one body of training. Beauty and Special Effects give you the practical half: how a base sits on skin, how a bruise is coloured so it reads as real, and why the order of each step matters on set. Makeup Knowledge gives you what sits behind both, from ancient civilisations and the stage to twentieth-century advertising, film and television, drag and gender.
I studied that theory at degree level, and it has shaped every job I have taken since. Most people never get near it, because a degree costs three years and money few of us have spare. The trilogy puts the practical and the theoretical side by side, so you learn to do the work and to understand it at the same time.
In the two practical courses I film every stage up close, at a steady pace, with nothing playing in the background. Makeup Knowledge is theory from start to finish: no kit to buy, nothing to apply, just the lessons and a workbook of questions to answer in your own words.
Bought as a set, the three cost less than they would one at a time.
Every look is only as good as what lies underneath it.

Hi, I’m Sophie
I am a makeup artist for television, film and multimedia, with a first-class degree in makeup for media and performance from Arts University Bournemouth. In 2021, aged 21 and still a student there, I won series three of Glow Up. My credits include Doctor Who, The Crown and the BBC.
I am autistic, and it shapes how I teach: clear structure, steady pacing and written notes beside every video. You will hear no background music in my lessons, and you will find no sponsorships or paid product mentions. Every opinion is my own.
More than two hundred students have taken my courses so far, and I speak with them directly in our private group chat. This autumn I started a PGCE in art and design at UCL, because the next thing I want to do is lecture.
